Overview

The goal of the Homekey program is to grant state funds to local public entities to acquire, develop and operate a broad range of housing types, including but not limited to hotels, motels, single-family homes and multifamily apartments, adult residential facilities, and manufactured housing, to convert commercial properties and other existing buildings to Permanent or Interim Housing for the Target Population. Homekey was created as an opportunity for local public agencies to quickly acquire and rehabilitate properties like motels, multifamily buildings, and commercial properties, to expand housing for persons experiencing or at risk of homelessness, who are inherently impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
