Overview

The purpose of this program is to facilitate the enrollment, attendance, and success in school of homeless children and youth; and ensure homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free, appropriate, public education as provided to all other students. The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce the opportunity for county offices of education (COEs) to apply for the Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program grant for fiscal years 2024–27. These federal funds are made available to support all efforts to ensure that homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free appropriate public education, including public preschool education, as provided to other children and youth.
